They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. For example\, if someone gets near you physically\, you take a step back. But what about your emotional boundaries? If someone asks you to do something you’re not comfortable with\, does your alarm sound? Sometimes through conditioning including family or social pressures\, that alarm — which is like a muscle — can grow weak or faint. You may struggle to even hear it\, or not know how to respond. \nJoin Licensed Mental Health Counselor Jill Hamilton Buss as she helps you explore your boundaries and learn ways to strengthen them\, including how to handle chronic boundary crossers – think well-meaning parents\, partners\, siblings or adult children. Like healthy physical boundaries\, healthy emotional boundaries can protect you. The vagus nerve is the largest cranial nerve in the body and is a key part of your autonomic nervous system\, specifically the parasympathetic “rest and digest” nervous system. It influences your breathing\, digestive function\, heart rate and fight or flight response\, all of which can significantly impact physical and mental health. \nDuring this program the Crosby Wellness Center’s Joy Henderson\, a seasoned fitness professional who holds certifications in yoga\, Pilates\, spin and sports medicine training\, will lead a discussion on this important aspect of your wellbeing. She’ll provide instructional examples via yoga modalities to help you learn how to better regulate the inter-related systemic mind-body mechanisms\, specifically the vagus nerve’s role in contributing to improved body-mind awareness\, physical and mental regulation and decreased reactivity to stressful stimuli. \nSpecial Instructions: Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in this program; no prior yoga experience required.
