They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. All attendees are also encouraged to bring their own bottles of water. \nThis program is presented by Camille Sacco and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nCamille Sacco is an American Institute of Health Care Professionals Mindfulness Coach and meditation instructor. The achievement of goals can be a significant moment for any child/teenager. Achieving success at any capacity during childhood instills lifelong lessons of hard work and goal-oriented decisions. However\, the process of achieving goals is where misconstrued concepts of perfectionism can seep in and detrimentally affect a child’s mental health. The purpose of this workshop is to define perfectionism through a child/adolescent lens\, to examine where these belief systems originate\, and to observe the various ways these concepts manifest themselves. \nThis Workshop will focus on three main areas of influence on a child/teenager: \n1. Social: peers\, teachers\, coaches\, etc. \n2. Family: parents\, siblings\, extended family \n3. Personal: individual thoughts and feelings \nHow to join the Zoom Program: \nUpon registration for this program\, you will receive two emails: \n\nOne email from Eventbrite: you can either disregard this email or save it for your records. No action needed with this message.\nOne email from the Center for Health & Wellbeing: this email will contain your link to join the Zoom meeting. Simply select the link and the Zoom Meeting will launch. Please allow yourself five – 10 minutes before program start to launch Zoom and confirm your technology is properly working.\n\nFor troubleshooting and other Zoom-related questions\, please email us at programs@yourhealthandwellbeing.org \nAbout the Presenters \nThis program will be presented by students enrolled in the Marriage\, Couple\, and Family Counseling track in Counselor Education at Stetson University in DeLand. These students are focused on learning about how significant relationships influence individual experiences and directly and indirectly affect our well-being throughout life. This program will be offered under the guidance of their professor\, Jacqui Williams\, Ph.D.\, LMFT\, Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Counselor Education. He’s keeping a diary\, he’s falling in love\, there are rivals for his affections\, he lives with his best friend and his worst enemy – even taken together\, these factors are maybe not that unusual\, except that Clancy is a dog. His point of view is therefore perhaps…different. Told in Cameron’s signature style\, a tremendous cast of wonderful characters find themselves jointly and separately navigating the challenges of life\, of love\, and…other pets\, including Clancy’s “worst enemy” – one very disdainful cat. It’s a lot to keep track of\, especially when things start to spin hilariously out of control\, but fortunately\, we’ve got the observations of Clancy\, a very good dog\, who shares a valuable perspective on what is really important. \nABOUT W. BRUCE CAMERON \nW. BRUCE CAMERON is the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of A Dog’s Purpose\, A Dog’s Way Home\, and A Dog’s Journey (all now major motion pictures)\, The Dog Master\, A Dog’s Promise\, the Puppy Tales for young readers (starting with Ellie’s Story and Bailey’s Story)\, The Dogs of Christmas\, The Midnight Plan of the Repo Man\, and others. He lives in California. \nABOUT AMY SWEEZEY\nAmy Sweezey is a meteorologist\, author\, public speaker\, and mom of 3. She spent nearly 30 years in full-time TV news before leaving in 2020 to freelance for several media companies\, including Growing Bolder and Spectrum News 13 in Orlando. \nAmy has authored two children’s books about weather\, one fiction\, and one nonfiction\, and created two weather workbooks based on the Florida state standards for science and weather. What if you learned science-based techniques you could use to modify your physiology as you moved through the day? How much better would you feel as you arrived in the evening? \nConscious and intentional breath and movement are the fastest ways to pull ourselves back and reenergize the mind and body. In this program\, led by Crosby Wellness Center group fitness instructor Alan Zemel\, a certified Oxygen Advantage Functional Breathing coach with the Oxygen Research Institute\, you’ll learn techniques to consciously modify the breath and move the body that are scientifically proven to bring inner peace and relaxation. Exercises will be taught explaining the science behind many topics such as vagal tone\, heart rate variability\, the blood O2/CO2 balance\, and other physiologic processes of the relaxation response that you can control. Experience first-hand how intentional focused functional breathing and synchronized movement can bring peace and wellbeing to the mind and body. \nThis winter\, we invite you to join Zemel for this workshop on the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. for a program that has the power to dramatically change the way you approach each day. \nThis program is presented by Alan Zemel and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the Crosby Wellness Center. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nAlan Zemel is a Senior Teacher-Trainer with The Healer Within Foundation and the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi (IIQTC). Mr. Zemel has been engaged with holistic health care modalities for over 25 years. Mr. Zemel’s classes incorporate various breath and movement techniques that teach students how to take control of their own physiology and health/wellbeing. Mr. Zemel’s classes are science-based and provide modern data and research as to why these practices are effective. Students learn not only how to engage in these practices\, but why they work. The focus is on how to control various body systems such as the vagus nerve/relaxation response\, parasympathetic nervous system\, heart rate variability\, lymphatic system\, and much more. This ability often encompasses our downfall\, because in imagining perfection we sometimes begin demanding it from ourselves and others. In this two-week workshop\, you’ll explore the effects of perfectionism on our wellbeing\, including physical\, mental\, emotional and spiritual wellbeing\, and discover ways of accepting the inherent value in all aspects of our humanness.  \n  \nWeek 1 – The Pitfalls of Perfectionism  \nTo be fully human\, we must find ways to embrace the paradox of striving always towards growth while accepting our limitations. In Part 1 of this High Standards series with Licensed Mental Health Counselor Alison C. Issen\, you’ll define healthy and unhealthy types of perfectionism.  Plus\, you’ll have the opportunity to assess your own perfectionistic tendencies\, attitudes and behaviors.  \n  \nAttendees are strongly encouraged to attend both parts of this series\, meeting on Thursday\, Jan. 12\, 11 am – Noon\, and Thursday\, Jan. 19\, 11 am – Noon. To register for part two\, please click here.    \nThis program is presented by Alison C. Issen and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation.    \n  \nAbout the Presenter:   \nAlison C. Alison brought this comprehensive program to the hospice several years ago and developed Hospice of the Comforter’s Quality of Life Education Program. Alison has taught psychology at the college level and has worked in the field of health and wellness for over 35 years\, including over 10 years as a hospice nurse and counselor. Her specialty areas include stress management\, grief and loss\, end-of-life\, aging and relationship issues\, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy\, and Positive Psychology. A recent survey by BookBrowse of over 5\,500 individuals engaged in book clubs across the country reported that survey responders highlighted both the value of discussion focused on the chosen book AND the social nature of the group. In the latest session of our yearlong CHWB Book Club\, you’ll join Dr. Annette Kelly\, an avid reader\, and the recently retired board president of Neighbors Network\, who aims to help you do both! \nFor our December selection\, we’ll be reading “Susan\, Linda\, Nina & Cokie: The Extraordinary Story of the Founding Mothers of NPR” by Lisa Napoli. \nBack in the 1970s\, a pioneering non-profit called National Public Radio came along and the door to serious\, meaningful journalism cracked open. And in walked four remarkable women. The rest is history. \nJournalist Lisa Napoli wonderfully captures the lives and contributions and challenges of these four very different women: \n\nCokie Roberts\, born into a political family\, familiar with the halls of Congress\, yearning for public service.\nSusan Stamberg\, the first woman to anchor a nightly news program.\nLinda Wertheimer\, daughter of shopkeepers from New Mexico\, who fought her way to a scholarship and a spot on the air.\nNina Totenberg\, the network’s legal affairs correspondent\, who found a new way to cover the Supreme Court.\n\n  \nThe book is based on extensive interviews and the author’s own deep connection to news and public radio\, and it’s a captivating telling of one of the most significant eras in journalism. \nRead “Susan\, Linda\, Nina & Cokie: The Extraordinary Story of the Founding Mothers of NPR” by Lisa Napoli and make plans to join the CHWB Book Club for a lively discussion led by Dr Annette Kelly. \nSpecial Note: Participants are asked to borrow or purchase the featured book prior to the program’s start date. Book clubs work well when participants have read the book\, but this is not a requirement. Being open to the opinions and reflections of others is important\, as is staying on topic. Other elements of a “good” discussion: making room for everyone who wishes to speak\, being attentive when others are speaking\, not interrupting\, or arguing\, and encouraging less talkative members to join in. \nThis program is presented by Dr. Annette Kelly and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nAnnette Kelly recently retired as the board president of Neighbors Network\, a local non-profit\, whose mission is the independence\, engagement\, and connectedness of older adults in our community. She is also a retired nurse practitioner and nursing professor with experience locally as the former CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association. She was the former assistant professor of Nursing at Florida Southern College. Kelly is an avid reader who has been married 58 years and enjoys spending time with her four children and four grandchildren. In this program\, licensed mental health counselor Jill Hamilton Buss will lead you through a thought-provoking discussion and a series of writing exercises will help you bring to light the narrative that underpins your life. Like a polaroid picture\, buried themes may become visible as you examine your life story through insight-generating exercises and examples. Maybe it’s time to write a happy ending – or a new beginning. \nIn this program\, you will learn more about how your “life story” came to be and how to take back authorship to write the story you want to live. Plus\, Hamilton Buss will also explain how to “reframe” sad\, hurtful or troubling experiences in ways that can create powerful healing and hope. When you leave this class\, you’ll possess crucial therapeutic journaling techniques that can help you when you are sad\, hurting or stuck. \nWe invite you to bring a packed lunch or pick something up from Nourish Coffee Bar + Kitchen at the Center for Health & Wellbeing on your way into the program and use your lunch hour to improve your mental wellbeing. \nProgram Notes: Participants should be prepared for this program with a journal or paper and a pen for note taking.
