Synchronize this with some gentle movement to increase your balance\, improve proprioception\, and increase lymphatic system circulation and you have the keys to better health and vitality. \nIn this science and skill-based practice-hour Alan Zemel will show you why Qigong (breath work) and Tai Chi (slow intentional movement) trigger the body’s relaxation and healing mechanisms. Through his presentation\, Mr. Zemel will show you the science behind these practices using anatomical illustrations and data from recent fMRI studies and quantitative research. Paramount to learning these ancient practices is understanding why they work from a science-oriented perspective. Much of what we have been taught about breathing is incorrect because the physiologic truth is counter-intuitive. In this hour you will learn a modified breathing technique and the methodology for linking it to some basic Tai Chi movements\, allowing you to discover why Tai Chi is often called “meditation in movement.” More importantly\, you will walk away with some skills which\, when used daily\, can change the quality of your life and how you live it. \nThis program is presented by Alan Zemel and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:   \nAlan Zemel works with the Winter Park Health Foundation\, Center for Health and Wellbeing\, CanoHealth\, Westminster Retirement Community\, and the Veteran’s Administration. Through his company\, Veteran’s Health Pathways (www.veteranshealthpathways.com). Mr. Zemel teaches employees of the Veterans Administration (doctors\, acupuncturists\, massage therapists and others) and teaches them the skills necessary to help our nation’s veterans overcome post-traumatic stress\, lung damage from burn pits\, and traumatic brain injury among other ailments. Upon completion of each course and demonstration of proficiency\, students receive certifications to coach veterans. \nMr. Zemel is a Senior Teacher-Trainer with The Healer Within Foundation and the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi (IIQTC). Mr. Zemel is also a certified teacher with Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Health Institute\, and a certified Senior Oxygen Advantage Functional Breathing Coach with the Oxygen Research Institute\, Ltd. Mr. Zemel has been engaged with holistic health care modalities for over 25 years. Mr. Zemel’s classes incorporate various breath and movement techniques that teach students how to take control of their own physiology to improve health\, vitality\, and overall wellbeing. \nRegistration Note: \nPlease note: As of August 2023\, when you register via Eventbrite for community education programs at the Center for Health & Wellbeing\, you are now required to accept our Waiver and Release as part of the Eventbrite checkout process. No previous musical experience is needed. \nFollowing an introductory program on August 24\, the classes will be held biweekly beginning in September. You are welcome to stop in for just one class or each time we meet. Classes will explore music-making\, listening and understanding. Some of the lesson plans include: \nRaise Your Voice \nHave you ever watched a child sing and dance with reckless abandon? When was the last time you used your voice so freely? They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. All attendees are also encouraged to bring their own bottles of water. \nThis program is presented by Camille Sacco and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nCamille Sacco is an American Institute of Health Care Professionals Mindfulness Coach and meditation instructor. In a world where “convenience is king\,” we may sometimes avoid preparing meals from scratch. One reason to spend those extra 15 minutes in the kitchen using whole foods instead of pre-packaged items is to limit the amount of ultra-processed foods we consume. Over time — and especially during the holidays — emphasizing minimally processed foods can have big benefits for our overall health. \nJoin Collette Haw\, a chef trained in holistic health\, and Daria Igudesman\, PhD\, nutrition researcher and Registered Dietitian with AdventHealth’s Translational Research Institute\, in preparing their whole foods renditions of a few holiday favorites. By attending this class\, these appetizing recipes will inspire you to shop the perimeter of the grocery store and choose fewer pre-packaged items in the center aisles to nourish both your body and your spirit this holiday season. \nYou have two options for attending this program – save your seat in the Nutrition Theatre or click here to register for our free webinar and watch it from home. Whether you’re watching from inside the Nutrition Theatre or from home\, you’ll also have the opportunity to share your questions and comments with Collette and Daria during the program. \nThis is a demonstration-style cooking program\, so our in-person attendees should prepare to sit back\, relax and let our chef prepare the meal while you enjoy the delicious items. All attendees\, both online and in-person\, will receive a booklet for the following menu: Crispy Walnut Maple Baked Apples with Oats; Kale and Roasted Cranberry Christmas Salad and Whole Grain and Lentil Turkey Pot Pie. \nCancelling Your Reservation: In order to receive a full refund\, participants must cancel their program registration at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled start of the program.
