They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. She advanced her knowledge by becoming a certified Culinary Medicine Specialist\, certified in Weight Loss Management. Harrell believes that every time we eat\, it is an opportunity to promote our health. She incorporates culinary experiences with a science-based approach. Her programs and tools make a positive difference in the health of our communities by instilling confidence and knowledge in the kitchen. \nKeri Whitaker is a research nurse at the Translational Research Institute and is based out of the AdventHealth Diabetes Institute. She works to get people 18+ into diabetes research trials. “I’m spending a lot of time just talking to them\, finding out more about how they live\, how they treat their diabetes\, how they’ve lived with their diabetes. I’ve got patients who have had diabetes for 65 years\, so I’m learning stuff from them too.” \nNot only does she educate patients about medication and device studies\, but she’s also a firm believer in signing herself up. “I do every chance I get.” From questionnaires to giving blood samples to testing Dexcom patches\, Keri believes it’s all important. “I wouldn’t be where I am today as a diabetic person if there wasn’t research.” \nAbout the Food as Medicine Series: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” isn’t just a quote from ancient Greek philosopher Hippocrates\, it’s a framework to healthy and healing eating that’s more relevant today than ever. As parents\, it is important to understand the normal ranges of development\, including physical\, social\, emotional\, and intellectual areas and how to support them as we approach the mid-point of the school year. All children develop at their own pace\, but it is important for parents to be able to provide appropriate expectations and support for their children at all ages and phases. As children move into the adolescent phases\, there are even more challenges that arise with fostering healthy relationships and preparing teenagers for adulthood. \nLed by counselors from the CHILL program in partnership with Orange County Public Schools\, this educational seminar will provide the opportunity for parents to learn about the different aspects of adolescent growth and development. Come join mental health professionals to discuss the importance of downtime and balance as a way to enhance creativity\, presence\, connection\, and emotional regulation throughout this period. We will also explore the ways that parental expectations can impact an adolescent’s growth and development\, and how to practice self-awareness during the parenting journey and beyond. \nThis program is presented by OCPS Chill Counselors and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nThe CHILL (Community Help & Intervention in Life’s Lessons) program in Orange County Public Schools was founded in 1998 by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the 12 Orange County Public School serving Winter Park\, Maitland and Eatonville. CHILL provides free\, confidential\, in-school counseling to students and their families. It is part of a collection of school-based health and wellness services supported by WPHF called the Coordinated Youth Initiative (CYI). Other services include nurses\, nurse practitioners in school-based health centers\, and healthy school teams.
