Join us for an activity that is sure to inspire deep feelings of gratitude during this upcoming holiday season. \nIn this workshop\, psychologist and artist Monica Vidal of the Atlantic Center for the Arts will offer a creative experience using paper and colors that will guide you toward recognizing the many acts of love that can go unnoticed in our daily lives. By acknowledging these moments\, it opens the door to spot the myriad of things that offer us a feeling of gratitude. This practice has been proven to contribute to overall wellbeing and sense of contentment. \nThis program is presented by Monica Vidal and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:     \nMonica Vidal is an internationally accredited psychologist\, certified Neuro-Linguistic Programming master practitioner\, corporate training specialist\, and public speaker. Combining her years of experience in helping and training people with her lifelong passion for art\, she has found an enjoyable and effective way of navigating our feelings when losing a loved one. The expression of love through the creation of art honors the life and memory of a special person in our lives while we learn to regain our own purpose in life. Monica is originally from Sao Paulo\, Brazil\, and she has traveled extensively\, admiring and being inspired by art in cities from Los Angeles and Paris to Dubai\, as well as many in South America. Her main art mediums are fabric and yarn. She has learned that art isn’t just something pretty to look at. It takes on a life of its own through the hands that created it and it becomes a beautiful expression of their souls. Art has always been a part of her life in many ways\, and she couldn’t be happier combining that with her deep passion for helping people. She loves to be a guide and an inspiration to others. \nAbout the Presenting Organization  \nFounded in 1977 by Doris Leeper\, an internationally known sculptor and painter\, as well as a visionary environmentalist\, Atlantic Center for the Arts (ACA) is a non-profit multidisciplinary artist residency facility located in New Smyrna Beach\, Florida. As parents\, it is important to understand the normal ranges of development\, including physical\, social\, emotional\, and intellectual areas and how to support them as we approach the mid-point of the school year. All children develop at their own pace\, but it is important for parents to be able to provide appropriate expectations and support for their children at all ages and phases. As children move into the adolescent phases\, there are even more challenges that arise with fostering healthy relationships and preparing teenagers for adulthood. \nLed by counselors from the CHILL program in partnership with Orange County Public Schools\, this educational seminar will provide the opportunity for parents to learn about the different aspects of adolescent growth and development. Come join mental health professionals to discuss the importance of downtime and balance as a way to enhance creativity\, presence\, connection\, and emotional regulation throughout this period. We will also explore the ways that parental expectations can impact an adolescent’s growth and development\, and how to practice self-awareness during the parenting journey and beyond. \nThis program is presented by OCPS Chill Counselors and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nThe CHILL (Community Help & Intervention in Life’s Lessons) program in Orange County Public Schools was founded in 1998 by the Winter Park Health Foundation in partnership with the 12 Orange County Public School serving Winter Park\, Maitland and Eatonville. CHILL provides free\, confidential\, in-school counseling to students and their families. It is part of a collection of school-based health and wellness services supported by WPHF called the Coordinated Youth Initiative (CYI). Other services include nurses\, nurse practitioners in school-based health centers\, and healthy school teams. A survey by BookBrowse of over 5\,500 individuals engaged in book clubs across the country reported that survey responders highlighted both the value of discussion focused on the chosen book AND the social nature of the group. \, \nOur CHWB Book Club facilitator Dr. Annette Kelly\, an avid reader and founder and recently retired Board President of Neighbors Network\, aims to help you do both! \nFor our October Book Club selection\, we will be reading and discussing “Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End” by Atul Gawande. Published in 2014 and available in paperback\, this bestselling\, groundbreaking book changed the way we discuss death and dying. \nIn addition to this focused title discussion\, we will have time for sharing recently read books… a great way to find your next read!! \nSpecial Note: Participants are asked to borrow or purchase the featured book prior to the program’s start date. Book clubs work well when participants have read the book\, but this is not a requirement. Being open to the opinions and reflections of others is important\, as is staying on topic. Other elements of a “good” discussion: making room for everyone who wishes to speak\, being attentive when others are speaking\, not interrupting\, or arguing\, and encouraging less talkative members to join in. \nThis program is presented by Dr. Annette Kelly and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:   \nAnnette Kelly\, Ph.D.\, retired as the board president of Neighbors Network\, a local non-profit\, whose mission is the independence\, engagement\, and connectedness of older adults in our community. Kelly is an avid reader who has been married to Jerry for 61 years and enjoys gardening\, painting\, and spending time with her family and friends. They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. All attendees are also encouraged to bring their own bottles of water. \nSpecial note: Beginning in 2024\, we will be charging a small fee for some of Camille’s meditation classes. The first session of each month will remain free\, so please use that as an opportunity to introduce friends to the practice of mindfulness and meditation. Space is limited so please reserve your spot for the free community class each month; and if you book a spot and can no longer attend\, please cancel your reservation to allow someone from our wait list to share in this experience. \nThis program is presented by Camille Sacco and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:    \nCamille Sacco is an American Institute of Health Care Professionals Mindfulness Coach and meditation instructor. She is also a graduate of the acclaimed Palouse Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course.
