It’s challenging to witness all the individual problems society has with food — a street full of chain restaurants\, school lunches hardly counting as food\, the aisles and aisles of processed snacks in the grocery store — and internalize the reality that we are dealing with an entire food system that limits our choices. Food has become a commodity\, a chore\, fuel in the same sense that brings us to the gas station. \nThe team at Edible Education Experience aims to influence how the Central Florida community thinks about food. Experiencing the entire seed-to-table cycle gives a more accurate and meaningful view of the closed-loop process that brings a carrot to a dinner plate. Understanding what this system looks like allows curiosity and engagement with it\, inspiring more informed\, value-based decision making around food. Evolving “seed to table” into an accessible lifestyle requires compromises and conversations; we all must make decisions that work best for ourselves\, but we all must work together to create a system and a community that supports those decisions. In this class\, led by Brad Jones\, a founding member of Edible Education Experience and a Garden Educator\, you will explore the seed-to-table discussion\, celebrating the natural process of food\, and the people\, cultures\, and communities that cultivate it. \nProgram note: Please bring a notebook and writing utensil for note-taking. \nThis program is presented by Edible Education and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:   \nBrad Jones began his garden education mission when he initiated and led a gardening program at Orlando Junior Academy fifteen years ago. Inspired by Alice Waters’ assertion that “if you grow it and cook it yourself\, you’re going to want to eat it\, even kale\,” Brad collaborated with parents and teachers to change the way students and their families were thinking about food\, winning the University of Florida’s School Garden Competition along the way. A founding member of Edible Education Experience\, Brad finds his joy as Garden Educator\, guiding students of all ages through the many lessons a garden can teach us. It is his deeply-held belief that finding pleasure and meaning in food is just as important to wellness as the nutrients within\, and he upholds EEE’s mission to inspire wholeness from the physical\, mental\, and emotional wellbeing a love of good food can give us. \nEdible Education Experience offers hands-on programming for students of all ages\, and that includes you. From the garden to the kitchen and back again\, students experience the full sustainable cycle of where food comes from\, gaining the confidence and curiosity to engage with that system. Yes\, we’ll teach you cooking techniques and many ways to enjoy plant-based eating\, but the true treasure we want to share is the seed-to-table mindset. This involves you\, and you have a place at the table. \nRegistration Note: \nPlease note: As of August 2023\, when you register via Eventbrite for community education programs at the Center for Health & Wellbeing\, you are now required to accept our Waiver and Release as part of the Eventbrite checkout process. With Judy Minear\, a projective dream work expert with a decade of experience in dream group facilitation\, you’ll unpack the symbolic language of the “theater of the night.” Over the course of four group sessions\, you will build on the basic tenet that all dreams come in the service of health and wholeness. As you mine the wisdom expressed in your dreams\, you’ll build a better relationship with yourself and others. Dreams offer guidance\, clues\, inspiration and multiple meanings. The group process provides a supportive path to unearth the clues from our own unconscious. \nIn this series\, you can expect to learn: \n• How to improve dream recall \n• Two methods of working a dream \n• How to tap into the depths of symbols \nProgram notes: Please bring notes about a recent dream to class\, even if it is a fragment. The class is based on the seminal work of Jeremy Taylor. His book “The Wisdom of Your Dreams” is helpful but not necessary. \nThis program is presented by Judy Minear and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:   \nJudy Minear has participated in Dream groups for over 20 years. She attended the annual Haden Summer Dream Conference for seven years. She has been the current facilitator for an ongoing dream group for seven years. She studied with Jeremy Taylor as well as others who have been instrumental in the International Association for the Study of Dreams. She credits her curiosity for her deep interest in dreams. Unpacking dream symbols and working with shadows feels like a calling to her. After multiple experiences in Egypt\, she developed an active interest in the mysteries. She has offered this class at the Rollins STARS venue as well as the Winter Park Library. She brings a deep understanding as well as a warmth and a sense of humor to the process of Projective Dream Work. \nRegistration Note: \nPlease note: As of August 2023\, when you register via Eventbrite for community education programs at the Center for Health & Wellbeing\, you are now required to accept our Waiver and Release as part of the Eventbrite checkout process. They can be very therapeutic because you are literally bathed in sound waves\, where you will enter a state of deep relaxation. Sound baths help facilitate shifts in our brainwaves by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our brainwaves by providing a stable frequency which the brainwaves can attune to. By listening to the rhythm and frequencies of the crystal bowls\, we can downshift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness) and even reach theta (meditative state) where profound learning\, healing and growth can occur. \nThis sound healing experience is designed to clear and release negative energy\, open your heart\, and promote a quieter state of mind. The harmonious sounds are created to support your body’s natural healing processes while you recline on blankets and pillows. After the session\, you’ll leave feeling mentally and physically rested\, ready to enjoy the peace and tranquility of a healthy mind\, body and spirit. \nSpecial Instructions: Attendees can sit in a chair or on the floor for this program. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat\, towel\, or small blanket; chairs will be available for those who prefer to use one. The room can also be cool during this program\, so cold-sensitive participants may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater. All attendees are also encouraged to bring their own bottles of water. \nThis program is presented by Camille Sacco and hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Program Presenter \nCamille Sacco is an American Institute of Health Care Professionals Mindfulness Coach and meditation instructor. No previous musical experience is needed. \nFollowing an introductory program on August 24\, the classes will be held biweekly beginning in September. You are welcome to stop in for just one class or each time we meet. Classes will explore music-making\, listening and understanding. Some of the lesson plans include: \nRaise Your Voice \nHave you ever watched a child sing and dance with reckless abandon? When was the last time you used your voice so freely? In this class\, we will explore our own sound and reflect on what parts of our life keep our creativity inhibited. Through reflection\, inspiration and experiential music-making\, we will grow to understand why singing and music might feel intimidating\, while working together to begin our own musical journey\, free of self-judgement. \nFrom Vision to Voice \nArt inspires. Art can change lives. This class will begin with visioning our most creative\, most joyful life\, drawing inspiration through song. Much like affirmations\, we will use song as a catalyst for growth and positive change. \nMake A Joyful Noise \nA creative mind is a healthy mind. Music-making challenges our brains to develop new ways of thinking and neuro-plasticity. In a group setting\, we will discover our own unique vocal sound and how by embracing our unique voice\, we find self-acceptance and deep joy. \nThis program is presented by Theresa Smith-Levin and teaching artists from Central Florida Vocal Arts and is hosted by the Winter Park Health Foundation. \nAbout the Presenter:   \nTheresa Smith-Levin is the founder and Executive Director of Central Florida Vocal Arts and its sister company\, Opera del Sol\, whose mission is to create a better Central Florida community through the arts. We are creating a continuing life cycle for the vocal arts in Central Florida through a three-step model. The first step\, Education and Training\, introduces young artists to the arts. Through our educational initiatives\, we develop students’ talent\, passion\, and confidence. Next\, our Mainstage Productions provide a transition period for students ages 8-18 and pre-professional adults to emerge on stage alongside local professional artists. Our life cycle culminates with Opera del Sol\, offering innovative productions in unexpected places and challenging perceptions of who the operatic performer and audience members are and what defines the genre as a whole. \nRegistration Note: \nPlease note: As of August 2023\, when you register via Eventbrite for community education programs at the Center for Health & Wellbeing\, you are now required to accept our Waiver and Release as part of the Eventbrite checkout process.
